About

This package is aimed at secondary school KS3/KS4 students studying Religious Studies, Anglo Saxon history, or Art and Design.

The secondary study days will include:

  • A facilitated guided tour of the Lindisfarne Gospels exhibition at the Laing Art Gallery (45 minutes)
  • A facilitated guided visit to Newcastle Central Library’s complementary exhibition Story Telling Through the Ages exhibition (45 minutes)

Complimentary workshops are available to book directly at Newcastle Cathedral for KS3 and KS4 for an extra fee, including Holy Communion and Q and A with the Clergy.

Please email learning@newcastlecathedral.org.uk to book additional workshops directly.

The workshops include:

Special Spiritual Spaces at Newcastle Cathedral KS1-3 (1-1.5 hours)

The Newcastle Cathedral workshop will provide a spiritual context to the Gospels and Lindisfarne and the symbology of the book in Christianity. Join the Learning team at Newcastle Cathedral for a workshop that explores some of the reasons why people find certain spaces special and spiritual. Decorate columns, handle precious objects and create giant patterns in our beautiful medieval nave. This workshop explores R.E, History and Art and can be adapted for KS1- 3 groups.

Eucharist, Q&A and tour- KS3-5 (1-1.5 hours) £50 per session, up to 35 students.

Get in touch with learning@newcastlecathedral.org.uk if you would like to arrange a visit to attend our daily 12.30 Eucharist service, take part in a Q&A with a member of the Cathedral clergy and go on a tour with a member of our learning team. This session helps to develop knowledge of Christian beliefs and traditions and provides an opportunity to explore spiritual, philosophical and ethical questions.

(Please note that attending the Eucharist is optional and free and is not part of the workshop charge).

Please note school visits to the Lindisfarne Gospels exhibition are only bookable through the Laing learning team on learning@laingartgallery.org.uk. Due to large volumes of visitors to the exhibition we are unable to offer self-guided tours of the exhibition.
