Workshop Summary

Turner’s The Fighting Temeraire (1839), on loan from the National Gallery, will be the centrepiece of the exhibition, which explores the rise of steam power and industry in Britain.

Our school offer will look at the local and changing landscape, and the North East’s industrial heritage, shipbuilding and the reusing of recyclable materials.

The workshop will take place in the exhibition space engaging in activities and exploring these fantastic artworks on display, this will be followed by a practical art activity centred on the use of recycled and reclaimed materials.

We have also teamed up with Discovery Museum where you will have the opportunity to take part in a self-led visit to see their fantastic Ships and Shipbuilding collections! Or use our city trail to make your way to the Quayside to explore Newcastle’s shipbuilding history!

We are also offering a free assembly as an introduction to Turner and his cultural importance with every booking. This can be delivered as a whole school assembly.

To book please fill in a booking enquiry form, or email lainglearning@twmuseums.org.uk
